Update on Monday’s campaign event
Posted: November 7, 2016 at 12:01 pm
Vice President Joe Biden will join Democratic Vice-Presidential candidate Tim Kaine at this evening’s campaign event on the North Plaza. This event will require heightened security measures.
Setup has begun outside the Johnson Center, and the entire North Plaza and all walkways in the immediate vicinity will be closed from around 2 p.m. until the conclusion of the event.Alternate routes will be posted and staff will assist with way finding. If you normally use the North Plaza at this time, please plan for an alternate route.
As a reminder, this is not a Mason university-run event. Tickets are not required, but the campaign is requesting that those interested in attending RSVP here. Gates to the event will open around 6 p.m. Please plan to arrive early, and do not bring bags, backpacks, food or beverages.
All university classes and events will be held as scheduled and administrative offices are open. If you are attending a class or event in a building adjacent to North Plaza on Monday, please allow additional time to reach your destination.
We ask faculty to be flexible with students who may be delayed and to please consider that noise may be a factor, particularly for evening classes scheduled in Robinson or David King Hall. Faculty may choose to cancel classes on their own or make alternative arrangements, if they are concerned about the impact of this event. Students should check directly with their instructors on the status of their classes.
Supervisors are encouraged to be as flexible as possible with employees, including informal flexible work options, if possible. Please see http://hr.gmu.edu for additional important information for faculty and staff on flexible work options.
Complimentary parking for the campaign event and Stomp at Concert Hall will be available in Lot K, surrounding General lots, and Rappahannock River Deck. The roofs of the Shenandoah and Rappahannock River Decks will be open as overflow general and event parking after 4 p.m. Paid visitor parking will be available in Mason Pond Deck.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility. Though these events can be disruptive to our normal campus patterns, they are exciting for our community and contribute to the learning environment.
