Posted: March 15, 2016 at 6:33 pm
The Washington Metro Area Transit Authority has announced that the entire Metrorail system will be shut down from midnight Wednesday, March 16, until 5:00 a.m. Thursday, March 17. For information about this closure and alternate public transportation services throughout the region, please visit http://www.wmata.com/.
Students who are concerned about getting to and from the university on Wednesday should discuss their individual circumstances with their instructors. Students should allow additional travel time to and from the university as traffic may be heavier than normal.
Mason supervisors are asked to exercise flexibility with faculty and staff. Please encourage the use of telework or individual leave. Faculty and staff who do not use Metrorail should plan for a longer commute as more people will be on the road. Please communicate with your supervisor and staff regarding your plans.
To accommodate students and employees who must drive to campus on Wednesday, general parking permit requirements will not be enforced. Drivers are encouraged to park in Lot K, Field House, and West Campus parking lots on the Fairfax Campus and may park in Founders Hall Parking Deck on the Arlington Campus. Mason to Metro and Metro Express shuttle service will not be offered on Wednesday, March 16th.
Some university services may not be available or operating with reduced service due to lack of staff and transportation challenges.
